The Jews got Israel because six million died in the camps. That wasn't why they got it, really- it was just why they got it with such a sense of urgency- it had been in the works for many years before World War II. Z, as I understand it, there was talk of a Zionist state in what is now Israel......but it was mostly talk. It was the Holocaust that made it a reality. The books written during the years between 1947-57 suggest that guilt was the oil to make things happen. The reason why the Jews need a state of their own so badly is because historically, whereever they've gone, they've been persecuted. I personally didn't believe that there really needed to be a Jewish homeland until last year. I didn't think that rampant anti-semitism existed anymore. I guess you don't know many Israelis then. Their question is not IF there will be another Holocaust but where and when. And I don't disagree with you that the Jews need their own homeland. Its unfortunate that the partitioning of Palestine left issues unresolved and people unhappy. ted
