Here's a copy of the letter I am sending to my local PBS affiliate. I think Lou would approve....

RE: My 2002 Contribution

Dear Station Manager:

Enclosed is my contribution to support public television for 2002. It is 25 percent less than last year due to the ouster of Louis Rukeyser from Wall Street Week With Louis Rukeyser. I know WUFT had nothing to do with his ouster, but I don't know any other way to make my displeasure known than by reducing my contribution.

I understand Mr. Rukeyser may launch his own PBS finance show. If so, I will restore next year's contribution to my normal level provided WUFT airs it in his former Friday, 8:30 pm, time slot. I suggest you air Wall Street Week with Fortune during the time slot which is most appropriate to Maryland Public Television's targeted audience. That should place it on Saturday mornings between Jay Jay, the Jet Plane, and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat!

For what it's worth, I find it ironic that a representative of WUFT called my household on Tuesday asking us our favorite PBS program. My wife responded without consultation and without hesitation that our favorite show
was Wall Street Week With Louis Rukeyser, and our second-favorite show was Washington Week in Review. The very next day, Uncle Lou was, well, not to put too fine a spin on it, canned. Hopefully, this letter and my reduced contribution accurately convey that, for our favorite show, the emphasis was on the LOUIS RUKEYSER portion of the title.
