According to this article, looks like Merrill Lynch is going Linux big time, top down. Doesn't mention Intel servers explicitly, but what else would they use for anything below the mainframe? I suppose they could look at Sun, but Sun doesn't have anything but the server appliances yet, I don't think. The article does say this:

Indeed, one of the big benefits that Carey sees is that Merrill can write an application once and then deploy it with minimal work on mainframes, minicomputers, desktops, laptops and handhelds--whether it be on Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people) hardware or something else.

Good trend, hope the other Wall Streeters follow.

Edit, according to this, maybe they are:

Merrill (nyse: MER - news - people) is one of many Wall Street brokerages doing a large-scale Linux deployment in an effort to cut their costs and boost revenue.
