I heard Prince Charlie was roundly chastised by Diana because of his participation in what she called "blood sports." Perhaps that is why they parted company.

As for fox hunting, it seems as if the gentry could tear up fences and lawns on horseback sans fox, as long as they are willing to pay the piper. It's a rather pointless exercise, since one neither eats the fox nor wears his fur afterwards. I wonder what they do with the poor fellow?

Since the law of unintended consequences was never repealed nor declared unconstitutional, decrying sport hunting even for sport is not always a good idea. Many African natives, having lost their jobs toting for safari parties, took to killing elephants for their ivory and rhinos for their horn. The result was a decline in the population of both, followed by complete anarchy in some quarters since the firearms were then turned on each other.

Elk are indeed magnificent. There is no greater thrill than having one come to you hoping to stomp your lights out. Of course the experience is likely to be poor unless you turn tables on him.

If you want to see a really large animal, go to the Northern Lights Hotel in Anchorage wherein stands the largest bull moose ever taken. He is fully stuffed and mounted in a big glass case. Very awesome, even for someone who has seen many in the wild.
