A deterministic cycle is a regular and predictable cycle like a sine wave. A stochastic cycle seems to cycle up and down with a given range but the actual length of the cycle etc. varies from cycle to cycle and is not so predictable. Deterministic cycles in data can be picked out using the spectrum of a time series. If you can't see a cycle on the spectrum then it is a significant deterministic cycle.
