STMicro said to be largest analog vendor

STMicroelectronics has been ranked as the leading analog supplier in 2001 by research firms iSuppli Corp., El Segundo, Calif., and Databeans Inc., Reno, Nev., dethroning Texas Instruments Inc.
Susie Inouye, an analyst with Databeans, said the company now estimates ST's 2001 analog revenue at $3.21 billion, edging out TI, which had $3.2 billion in analog revenue last year. Meanwhile, iSuppli reported that ST had analog revenue of $3.38 billion, compared to TI revenue of $3.2 billion.
Databeans, like Scottsdale, Ariz.-based research firm IC Insights Inc., had originally determined that TI had retained its analog lead with estimates of ST's analog revenue at $2.9 billion. Jean Philip Dauvin, chief economist for ST in Geneva, had reported ST analog revenue in 2001 at $3.79 billion. IC Insights is reconsidering its results and expects an update next month.
ST "outperformed the industry in some of their key ASIC markets including consumer and computer," Inouye said.
