Yes, I love being one of the despised 14%.

That smacks of paranoia. The majority of Americans are religious, consistent with the heritage of our nation. Only a small fringe of extremists among that majority bear any hatred toward atheists or agnostics. You cannot do much about the fanatical minority found on every side of every issue.

The majority of believers, however, often do feel annoyance toward activist non-believers who try to impose their will on the majority ... such as in working to ban religious symbols in public places, taking "In God We Trust" off our currency, wanting to amend the pledge of allegiance, banning Christmas carols in the schools, and similar. The majority see this as an "in your face" attempt to remove all outward vestiges of religious belief from our society.

These aggressive tactics on the part of non-believers provoke confrontation, which in turn fosters a backlash of resentment. It is not hatred in any event, but it does reflect antagonism toward non-believers for pushing their agenda ... antagonism not about what they believe, but what they do.
