Yes...That's the "whisper number" phenomenon...but 50% is a big margin. In enterprise software the deals are big and the selling cycle is long. Quarterly surprises can happen either way without indicating the health of the business one way or the other.

Another thing to remember in Pegasystems' case is that the company doesn't recognize a sale until the customer has installed it and signed their acceptance. That means that the sales numbers for the current quarter actually occurred months, maybe a year ago. The current revenue numbers really reflect last year's business.
