I agree with you on the moral and ethics issues, but I don't see a gap that is generational. I've got the same complaints here.
Thing is, I separate the political from the business. Good politics is usually bad business. Morals and ethics, as it happens, are rarely engaged in political environments, since people do what is expedient. That is why they are usually bad business. As a result, voting (being a political process) as being "bought" (in the sense discussed), is hardly a corrupt act. Unseemly, yes. But it was done to engage in expediency.
While I have a problem with the concept, I understand why it was done. Sometimes (not all the time), the ends do justify the means. It is a rare occurrence, but in this case I would have signed on for it. |
