(This will be the first? What happened to the "production" that had apparently started at the beginning of the year? Were there any other 300mm .13u "production" products?)

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Chip giant Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM: INTC - news) (INTC) confirmed Thursday that it will unveil a 2.4-gigahertz Pentium 4 microprocessor sometime next week.

A spokesman for the Santa Clara, Calif. , chip maker said it will price the chip at about $560 for quantities of a thousand. He noted that this is the first P4 to be made on the 300-millimeter manufacturing process.

Initially the 2.4 gigahertz P4 will be produced on the 200mm process, but within a month production will shift to 300 mm.

Separately the spokesman said shipments of Intel's P4 in the first quarter of 2002 were ten times the amount shipped in the year ago first quarter.

Shares of Intel were recently trading up 1.7%, or 52 cents, to $30.95, on volume of 14.3 million. Average daily volume is 48 million.
