I drive a Ford F-250 pick-up. I drive it because it can pull my boat, haul my dog and my gear, and go places your "status" BMW cannot. I think buying a car for status is ridiculous, and you think it is the only reason to buy a car. As mentioned, I think this is a benign (don't care that you drive for status), but useful example of the differences between a practical thinking person like myself and one who is concerned about what others think.

I also would seriously consider a BMW as a future automobile, but with absolutely NO THOUGHT as to what others thought of me or my car. They are awesome driving machines, as BMW accurately claims. Not a whole lot of excellent handling rear wheel drive cars for enthusiasts anymore. I used to have a Mitsubishi GSX all wheel drive rice rocket. Not for the status, for the pleasure of driving. When it became an impractical car with the arrival of our son, I sold it and we bought an all wheel drive VW Passat station wagon. All my vehicles are all wheel drive btw, and that is not for the status.

Again, an excellent example of the difference in our ways of thinking. To carry it over to politics, I like good practical politicians that make decisions based on their merit as opposed to what others will think. Like our fine President, the honorable George W. Bush.
