oh it's not just the hispanics in congress who stand to benefit from allowing mass immigration. democrats in general stand to benefit. in the election of 2000, the ten states with the least foreign born all went for bush. ten out of the fifteen states with the largest foreign born went to gore. of course if you believe gore won florida, that would mean 11 out of 15 states with the most foreign born voted for gore.

bush and other republicans are fools for pandering to minorities who don't ever vote for them. even though bush panders to hispanics gore captured the hispanic vote 2 to 1. bush made a big effort to pander to blacks yet ended up with less of the black vote than bob dole. the pandering towards groups who won't vote for him no matter what he does would have cost him the election, were it not for nader who pulled votes away from gore.

bush thinks he needs to gain votes by compromising his principles and pandering towards liberal minorities groups. for every hispanic or black vote he garnered with his "compassion", he probably lost even more votes from conservative white americans such as myself.
