| It is called the religious right because they are people who are trying to impose their religious principals on others via the force of law. They come together for political action which is aimed at foisting their religious agenda, and their crusade for Christian values, on everyone. Atheists and agnostics, as far as I know, don't have pacs to do this. So I disagree with you. Further, Atheists and Agnostics who launch private law suits do so only to keep the government out of the business of religion. They cannot use the courts in any way to disenfranchise people of their right to worship as they wish to in their private ways. They can only use the courts to keep people from forcing their religions which should be private on people who do not want them. Your NOEL symbol is a blatant sponsorship of religion by the state. I would absolutely defend a NOEL on private property, And we get NOEL'ed to death at the Holiday season in every Walmart, and I hope all lovers of the constitution would defend the private rights of private citizens and private companies to NOEL everyone ad infinitum, but NOEL, and other religious symbols, have no place in our public places, except as part of a multi-religious and non-religious display where all are granted equal time. Tradition has nothing to do with what is "right" or good for society, and in fact the word "tradition" is often invoked to cloak ugly separatist activities in a time worn garment, to make them appear seemly, when they are really the bigoted, privileged vestiges of the advantage of one group over another. |
