Today is going to be a full day at clay space. Just drinking some morning coffee.
Promised Gabriel, my 15 year old son he could spend the day up there with me and we'd finish applying the glaze and he can help me during the firing process.

Hey, I have forgotten how nice it is to be a teenager. I'll give him until 9:30, 10 o'clock max to wake up and be ready to go. Otherwise, he's gonna have to kiss some butt to get ride up there.

Hehehehehehehe! It's not that I'm a ruthless unloving daddy, just that I've got three hours of work applying the glaze. Add another two to load the kiln, and then the firing process is a solid 18 hours.

The only cool part about the time consumption of firing the kiln is that I'm there the whole time so I tend to be productive working on other such clay projects.

I still want to make an outdoor chess board. Roughly I'm visualizing the pawns to be about 18" and the kings/queens would be maybe 3 feet tall. I am still pondering what material to make the board. I figure each square will be 1 foot for a total board size of 8 sq.ft. Could make it out of ceramic tiles, but I'm warming to the idea of perhaps treated and stained pine or some other wood that wouldn't rot.
I could always make it out of marble or even slate would be a good idea. What do you think? Any ideas?
