Enron was the largest contributor to Bush-Cheney (they even flew in the Enron corporate jet = uncounted soft money) and figured out the entire deregulation strategy along with the Jim Bakers of the world which similar to the S+L deregulation has cost us tens of billions and was meant to cost us hundreds of billions more. A giant power and money grab concentrated in Houston complete with putting their favorite son and his Uncle Dick in the White House. Despite the tragedy for the innocent people who lost their savings, the collapse of Enron was a fortunate thing in some ways. They were dangerous people. The censored energy papers which Cheney refuses to hand over probably are the smoking gun which begins to shed light on this, though it goes much farther.

Four years ago the GOP was obsessed with prying into every nook and cranny of Clinton's life, spreading false rumors and demonizing. Nothing came out of it after five years and 80 million in legal fees but Clinton denying he had sex with that woman (okay maybe a BJ but - oops ). It was all so cynical and wasteful. As if anyone didn't know Clinton cheated on Hilary when we elected him - twice.

If Clinton had not been so busy defending himself maybe he could have paid more attention to important matters, like Bin Lauden. Who knows?

As I've said I support the war on terrorism and
think we ought to ramp up targeted assassinations against Al Quaida types. But Bush has a real stake in keeping this war on terrorism going. He also wants to make up for his father's wimping out against Saddam even though no other countries support this aim now. The White House probably knows that so long as they are the flag-waving "defenders of democracy" they can avoid issues like the energy scandals, how close they were with Enron and how they used it to steal the election by creating a phony scare issue during the height of the campaign. But everything that goes around comes around. Unless the war on terrorism gets more widespread it is the story of the year in 2004, by which time much evidence will have been compiled (as well as much covered up and shredded).

Also remember, GW's father had 80% popularity points during the Gulf War but lost two years later. GW knows this and is trying hard to avoid it. But I believe he will suffer the same fate in the end. That said, I do support our president now, whomever he is. And if there is a God up there, may he help the world now, especially in the Middle East.

Disclaimer: I do own Halliburton stock. gg hey it's undervalued.
