I think I probably see more movies than anyone here- and Halle's performance (and all the performances in Monster's Ball) were simply amazing. I have never been in an audience of people who reacted so much to a movie. There are some scenes of Halle- furious with her son, I won't tell you why, furious because she loves him- that are so powerful the whole audience gasped. And the sex scenes in the movie are extremely intense, and yet, unerotic- (imo), being filled, as they are, with such desperation. Monster's Ball is a really unusual, intense, movie about some really ugly things- yet it manages to find a redemptive edge without being cloying or stupid. Any awards the movie or the actors and actresses in this movie got were deserved (imo). That said I don't watch award shows and I don't care what other people think about movies, nor do I care if anyone cares what I think. But there you are. ps- make sure you all see Donnie Darko
