Certicom's movianVPN Provides Industry-Leading Security for the Nokia 9200 Communicator Series

Certicom to Secure Mobile Enterprise Applications on Nokia Communicator
Phones Built on Symbian OS

LONDON, UK and HAYWARD, CA, March 19 /CNW/ - Certicom, (NASDAQ: CERT;
TSE: CIC), a leading provider of mobile e-business security, today announced
that its popular movianVPN(TM) client, the industry's first virtual private
network for wireless devices, will be available on the Nokia 9210, Nokia 9210i
and Nokia 9290 Communicator. movianVPN enables companies to leverage their
existing VPN infrastructures to extend critical enterprise applications such
as email and customer resource management (CRM) tools to mobile professionals
using popular Symbian OS-based devices.
Certicom's movianVPN for Symbian OS-based devices is an IPsec compatible
VPN client that provides true end-to-end security from handheld devices to the
corporate Intranet. The Symbian OS has been designed as an advanced, open,
standard operating system for data-enabled mobile phones. The Symbian OS-based
Nokia 9200 Communicator Series combines a wireless phone with a high-
resolution color display, email, fax, web browser, and multi-media
capabilities. This advanced communication device supports commonly used PC
office applications as well as mobile Java (J2ME).
"With VPN compatibility, the Nokia 9200 Communicator Series takes a
quantum leap in serving the needs of enterprises with high security needs,"
said Teijo Heistola, General Manager, Corporate Sales, Nokia Mobile Phones.
"Certicom's solution will greatly expand the VPN client choice for the Nokia
9200 Communicator for enterprises that use the Internet as a daily tool. This
will complement Nokia's own client which will be available later this year as
separate software for corporate users that deploy Nokia VPN infrastructures."
"We are pleased that movianVPN will soon be available for the Nokia 9210
and 9290 devices," said John Barbret, Global Information Security, Daimler-
Chrysler. "We have realized great benefits from the movian VPN client, as it
has allowed us to immediately connect our mobile workforce with PDAs over our
existing infrastructure! With movianVPN we are able to provide a common
interface for mobile users across all platforms. We look forward to extending
those benefits to the significant number of mobile executives currently using
the Nokia devices. This will allow even more of our workers to engage in
business practices on a much more sophisticated level than ever before
possible."
movianVPN allows companies to extend critical enterprise applications
such as e-mail and Sales Force Automation (SFA) tools to mobile professionals
using popular handheld devices. In addition to other algorithms, movianVPN
features support for elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) to enable fast
connection performance. Certicom's ECC technology is ideally suited for
securing hand held devices that are limited by low processing speed, network
bandwidth, and battery power and several gateways have incorporated it.
movianVPN is interoperable with leading VPN gateway products from Alcatel,
Check Point, Cisco, Intel, Nortel Networks, Radguard and Symantec, enabling
enterprises to leverage their network security investments to include mobile
devices.
"Businesses are looking for methods to allow both employees and customers
to obtain remote access to information in ways that conform with corporate
security policies," said Gillian Cross, Strategic Product Manager, Symbian.
"By working with companies such as Certicom, we are offering new and advanced
security solutions for the new generation of mobile phones, including the
Nokia 9200 Communicator series. Our partnership is helping to drive the demand
for devices and applications by enterprises because Certicom's movianVPN
enables them to maintain expected levels of security."
Certicom has also recently made it's popular Security Builder
cryptographic toolkit available for Symbian 6.0 and above, enabling
application developers to build additional security into their Symbian-based
products.
"Certicom's movianVPN client provides a critical component of a total
mobile enterprise solution because it interoperates with the widest selection
of wireless devices and VPN infrastructures," said Prakash Panjwani, Senior
Vice President of Business Development Certicom. "The new client is yet
another example of Certicom's leadership in the wireless space, and our
commitment to providing industry-leading security solutions for leading
wireless platforms."
The first customer ship for movianVPN 1.0 for the Nokia 9200 Communicator
Series will be in May, 2002. Version 1.0 will support the features currently
in demand and will support additional features found in the full version of
movianVPN based on customer requirements.
