re: Did you ever wonder why AMD lost money everywhere?

amd is fighting someone who is "slightly" larger in size

re: Most likely what happened was that Jerry went to the OEM's and said we have this great new Modelhurtz scheme to bamboozle the consumer into thinking our stuff has faster clock speeds
so did it work? Judging by improving asps it did? :-))
re: To an extent, I agree with you ..... They knew if they didn't raise their ASP's, they would be in a world of financial hurt. US retail wouldn't pay the price, based on the bogus QS scheme

To an extent, I agree with you. While amd does have resources to do that for a while it is no intel and the reserves are limited. So if there is no reason to spend them when it is not needed. US market seems to have healthy demand for axp though and in many places in and out of US axps are sold out.
re: They had no choice.

they did but what do you think of intel's strategy that made US unprofitable? I would understand intel's actions if amd would be localized to US retail but it seems they were not.
The rumors are is that Intel might go after US retail mobile market asps since it was a big revenue source for amd. Intel would make it work eventually but there are so many profitable segments to kill off yet......
