>>Actually, some people use these boxes professionally to make a iving. The choice of the best tool relates to its features, effectiveness, and ability to do the job at hand. For those without an understanding of what it is all about - as they have nothing else to reference, they often look at price first.<<

Unfortunately, reality isn't always kind. Where is Apple in the scheme of things when it comes to business related sales? Far behind HP, Compaq, Dell and a host of other WinTel related computer manufacturers. I suppose that they all opted for mountainous losses in productivity from using WinTel systems? Uh..I don't think so.

>>I'm not sure the History of Computers book would show it this way.
Perhaps you can elaborate on this point.<<

At the outset of the release of Win95, Apple more or less whined to the general public with such slogans as Windows95 = MacIntosh85. Now THAT was an effective campaign. IBM on the other hand pulled out some of the more ridiculous stunts. They actually drove a van appropriately bannered with the OS2 moniker through Chicago playing the tune Chicago as a sort of dig at Win95 before it was released. As history has shown this also was at best an entirely ineffective campaign. Gates turned around and hired the Rolling Stones. Now who is the better marketeer?

>>I suppose 'just fine' is 'just fine' unless you're really trying
to get real work done, and have experienced something better.<<

Well actually I don't know too many people who toil at anything other than real work but just the same if they did I would bet 85% of them will do it using a WinTel computer. Fact is, most of the business applications run "just fine" on a WinTel.

>>Thanks Bob, some of us have work to do...
I believe you once mentioned,
"Why drive a Volkswagon when you can cruise in a Ferrari."<<

Seems to me you haven't done much test driving lately. Bottom line is that WinTel has beaten Apple soundly and because of this Apple might be a play as a takeover or during a release cycle. But after that there's not much to rely on for any length of time.
