DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

PARIS -- The first rabbit born from cloning adult embryonic stem cells using nuclear transfer technology was announced Friday by private French biotechnology companies BioProtein and Vivalis, in conjunction with France's National Agricultural Research Institute. The results are published in the April issue of Nature Biotechnology. The findings will be used to develop new medicines, the companies said. The technology is the same used in producing Geron Corp.'s (GERN) Dolly the Sheep clone in 1997.
