Thanks Steve.. I was originally going to say 50%, but then I hesitated (and was too lazy to look it up.. :0) and made a more conservative guess.

I had recalled either of the two figures discussed during the Shiite uprising following the Gulf War..

Either way.. it's a significant demographic statistic that displays just how arbitrary the geographic boundaries are, with regard to respecting the national interests of various cultures. I would be one to opine that Shiite Arabs in a predominantly Sunni population qualifies as a "nation". But it's a weak nation.

And I still would greatly appreciate someone telling me exactly what qualities make up the unique nature of the Palestinian "nation".
