TC, the Dell Diagnostics program turned up some irreparable errors on the hard drive, so it's time to call Dell to get a new one. What saved my bacon was a backup hard drive and Norton Ghost. I Ghost'ed my C drive to a D drive just a few days before. This morning I connected the backup drive as my primary and picked up where I left off without a hitch. I can't recommend this solution strongly enough for the casual user who wants a quick, easy way to back up an entire drive with 100% confidence. It's a lifesaver when your main hard drive fails (and they do - this is my second in the past five years, first one was in a Gateway PC).
