Humans are not the only animals that have self awareness.

I would personally grant rights to self aware animals, such as gorillas and chimpanzees. These are a lot more human than a circular blob of cell a short while after conception. The rights granted would not be identical to that of homo-sapiens, but I would think that informed consent before experimentation and right to habitat, perhaps a property right, should be granted.
