Quidel Signs Agreement To Develop Throw-Away Medical Tests

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Quidel Corp. Tuesday signed an agreement with
privately held Innovative Biotechnologies Inc. to jointly develop
throw-away medical tests designed to equal or exceed the sensitivity of
tests performed on laboratory-based systems.
The San Diego-based maker of diagnostic products said it paid
Innovative an undisclosed fee for access to technologies licensed to
Innovative by Cornell University.
Feasibility studies are under way at Cornell. At the conclusion of
the studies, Quidel has the right to take exclusive or nonexclusive
rights to the resulting products. Niagara Falls, N.Y.-based Innovative
will receive sublicensing fees and royalties.
