A suicide bomber blew himself up in the Gush Etzion community of Efrat, southeast of Bethlehem, a few minutes ago.

Of the four wounded, one was in serious condition, police spokesman Rafi Yaffe said.

At least some of the wounded were members of a mobile intensive care unit that was operating outside the ambulance station at the time, medics said.

The wounded are being evacuated to Jerusalem hospitals.

The attack took place near a shopping center at the heart of the community.

It is unclear where the terrorist came from, and no group has taken responsibility for the attack.

Sappers are searching the area for other explosive devices.

Resident Toby Klein Greenwald, who lives in the vicinity of the newly-built EMS center, said her house shook from the blast.

She was about to leave for an interactive theater program in Jerusalem when the attack took place.

"How low can they [the Palestinians] stoop," she asked, "when they smuggle bombs in ambulances and blow up emergency medical centers?

"How can one be expected to reach peace aggreements with people whose whole moral fabric is different from normal people?" she asked.

A grocery store in the shopping center was targeted in another suicide attack six weeks ago. One person was wounded in that attack.

The Jerusalem Post Internet Edition will update this report as further details become available.
