Me neither. I don't get it. I had a hand injury in my 20's that cost me the sensation in my hand. Did I refuse the surgery that would correct the numbness? Of course not. Who doesn't want to be 'whole'. If this line of reasoning is a coping mechanism, that is fine, but I don't want to institutionalize it. Is there a deaf subculture? Sure, just like there are many subcultures.

Having a subculture based upon a lack of a type of sensory input isn't enough of a reason (to me) to eschew a treatment that gives you full function. It's like chosing to drive a damaged car when you have the resources to repair it.
