The quick simple fast solution to the matter is to stop shipping hardwood to the U.S. for a few weeks.
Do it. It should clear the air quite quickly.

I think the U.S. is playing hardball because they want to be in a control position when they start importing large amounts of water from Canada.
We're going to thaw Canada? :-)

You will see the same group negotiating that crisis as are involved in the current lumber dispute.
Why the same people? Different industries and interests here.

marcos rather clearly takes a leftist stance on these matters. That's why I wanted to get your take.

My own feeling is that Canada should get special consideration and treatment by the US. It has been a good neighbor and is an old and faithful ally. It is also one of the fairly small number of working democracies in the world. I think they should be treated better than countries such as China.
