Much of discussion of belief centres on semantics, the precise way in which each participant is using each term, so to get scientific about it [heh heh, see my plan?] you need to define words ... so, starting in the As -

Atheism - what does this word mean to those who put themselves in its camp? ... fwiw, to me it means a belief structure that denies the existence of greater and/or designing and/or controlling intelligent force or forces ... whereas -

Agnosticism - means to me 'absence of a deity in one's personal belief structure, pending evidence'

Many may call themselves atheists through default, having rejected what they see as absurdities in deist belief structures of others, they're not really saying they know for sure ... but some are saying that, or at least proposing it as the most logical theory .... but while some see deism and atheism as opposites, i rather consider them closely related, brothers in faith, and quite opposite the 'i just dunno' position
