These numbers are even better.....630,000 new subs during the month of March (if my starting number of 29.67 million subs is correct). This would be the best month in quite a while....

Mobile Phones Expected to Hit 33 Million in 2002

The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) announced Monday that domestic mobile phone users hit 30.30million as of the end of March, some 18 years since mobile communications debuted in 1984. And the number is expected to reach 33 million at the end of this year.

MIC said the mobile phone penetration rate of the country stood at 63.8%, ranking eighth in subscriber numbers and ninth in penetration as of the end of September 2001 in the global market for mobile phones.

The revenue for the mobile phone service remained only W400 million in 1984, when it was an exclusive service, but since the mass introduction of competitors in 1996, revenue rocketed from W3.3114 trillion in that year to W13.4704 trillion in 1997.

Daily mobile phone calls consumed some 2.78 million hours in 2001, up 14 times from 190,000 hours in 1996 and the average time of monthly mobile phone calls per head increased by 58% from 108 minutes in 1996 to 171 minutes in 2001.
