Depends what you mean by "believe"
I "believe" it in the same way I "believe" the theory of evolution
I accept it as a theory
but it doesn't have to be right
and if it changed tomorrow, because new data came to light, I would be fine with that
and in fact, I am looking for that new data all the time
I do not think the same can be said of the religious
they are not looking for data to disprove their model
that is the major difference, imo
I understand it would be emotionally satisfying for you to think that scientists "believe" in the same was as the religious, but I don't think that is true. It certainly isn't true in my case.
