Renewable energy would have a much easier time displacing the entrenched energy sources having to compete against the huge subsidies that they enjoy. And that doesn't count the subsidy of the military costs to keep the middle East oil flowing. We should be directly taxed at the pump to cover those costs to level the playing field, and then see how well terrorist resistant alternative energies will do. Unfortunately Exxon and Halliburton, and thus Cheney/Bush, are going to continue to fight for any change in the status quo.
