What are you talking about? By that definition Pakistan is sitting in the laps of US and China.

Anybody who has lived in India knows that Indians always felt closer to US than Russia. India just bought arms from USSR.

Just an anecdote. When I was growing up in Bombay, I used to visit the libraries of both the US Consulate as well as the Russian Consulate. Both provided free books and air conditioning. I couldn't ask for more. The House of Soviet culture was always empty, although it was a smaller building. The USIF library was always full. (Actually the British Council library was the most popular one. As there is more Britain in India then US or USSR).

Poor House of Soviet Culture. They showed free movies but most of them went empty. The only film that always went full-house was "The Gypsy Camp Vanishes into the Blue". The reason, it had topless scenes. :-)

Indians can spot propaganda. Because they have been fed their share. BBC Radio was considered an authority. Nobody listened to the Voice of America, as it had more (and thinly disguised) propaganda.
