13:17 ET GMST Gemstar-TV Guide defended by Merrill Lynch (10.00 -4.36) -- Update --
Merrill Lynch says that the selloff in GMST is overdone and maintains their Strong Buy rating; firm values co's mature businesses-- including TV Guide Magazine, the TV Guide Channel, VCR Plus and United Video-- between $8-$10 per share ($380 million in 2002E EBITDA at a 9x-11x multiple). The current share price of $9.55 (at the time of writing) implies that investors will receive all of the interactive programming assets for free.
