I would just like to point out that currency speculation has been a major culprit in creating some of the largest of the past decades monetary crises and that the fodder of rebellion (terror) is fermented in the lives of the wretched and 'educated middle class' from the poorest of countries. (There is nothing more dangerous than an educated man who understands the hoplessness of the future of his own people and children.)

In the particular case of Latin America, which is what I am familiar with, the speculators simply took advantage of what was coming anyway.

The devaluations in Mexico have been the result of an enormously inefficient system rigged by corruption ingrained in the system. Argentina, it was a dream of a bunch of egomaniacs thinking that Argentina was a first world country without realizing that during such crazy period, they allowed Brazil to eat their lunch, (in the auto industry at least, as the factories moved there where labor became cheap and in Argentina it became prohibitively expensive).

As for the children living in poverty... well there are a number of causes namely lack of education for the masses and (once again I will repeat it) the undue influence of the Catholic (and other), churches who impose their medieval laws upon an ignorant population while a condescending ruling class simply exploits the situation.

Luckily, all the pseudo-communist guerrillas have been exposed for the fraud that they always were, (i.e. another road to political power, forget their utopia ideals), and the Kool-aid drinking leadership were taken prisoners and shot throughout the continent because they were nothing more than over estimated criminals... not to mention that they lost funding from the decay of the USSR. The farce that Castro runs is only possible because Cuba is an Island, otherwise long ago that bastard would have been hung to dry from the highest stake.

Luckily... yet again, Latin America is NOT filled with maniac fanatics (as opposed to the middle east), therefore, the "terror" aspect has been minimal if at all existent.

There is nothing more dangerous than an educated man who understands the hoplessness of the future of his own people and children

I agree... except that if they were genuine in their "shock" they would be more intelligent as to their approach to the solution.

Once again, In Lat Am we have not had the terror that they have in the Middle East, but all the same.... many of these idealists, simply fail to get their message across, partly because the system (and ingrained corruption) is simply too huge and powerful... others they simply give up, and others, they become part of the problem as they join the corruption...

As for the stupidity of the Middle East situation I do not buy for an instant the idiocy of their so claimed "sacrifice" I do not give a rat's arse how unfamiliar with the details I may be... killing innocent people just because... simply does not cut the mustard in my eyes... I venture to say that once again we have the stupefying influence of religion at hand... since it is the idiotic concept of Palestinia having to have Jerusalem as part of their land...

At anytime, if they had any brains left, they could have settled for a piece of the dessert and make the best of it such as the Israelis have done.

And save your lecturing for my reference to the statement above as for me, I consider completely stupid to allow a bunch of criminals such as Arafat and cronies to be their leaders... if that id the best they have to offer...

... the entire brigade belongs to a nuthouse... give them a damned island where they can blow themselves to bits on their own and stop killing innocent people that have NOTHING to do with their troubles.

As for a world tax.... please....

Tobin threw out a good idea. Its nonpolitical and its realistic in its goals.

non-political ?

Non-political... tax-money on something that will influence many countries? sounds idealistic and impossible. (which is good). Yet another scheme by the United Nations leaches to feed their already bloated jobs to speak and speak and do absolutely nothing.

Isn't it about time these people become accountable to some sort of result oriented performance instead of the endless speeches about incomprehensible subjects ?

Real solutions can only come from within each particular country if they are sincere about true reforms where the people of each country can improve their own lot... the rest, has, is and will always be demagoguery by those in power whose main objective is perpetuate their near-god status in front of a world audience.
