Arafat's blunders during Black September and in Lebanon in 1982 should have been more than enough to have made him a piece of history with no present relevance whatsoever.

He is crafty and devious. I don't fully understand why the Palestinian people follow him. I think it has to do with the way in which he thumbs his nose at the US and Israel, an attitude which must somehow resonate with the populace.

He has unfortunately latched on to a corrupt and immoral tactic which he is mining the best that he can.

Surely there are some reasonable Palestinians somewhere who have some influence over events.
