<systematic destruction of the Kurdish fabric> One reason for the silence might be the involvement of Turkey in the matter, an important ally of "Enduring Freedom"... Maybe Turkey doesn't mind a Kurdish state if no Turkish territory is lost... Just a wild speculation. Anyway, the Kurdish question gets a lot of exposure here in Germany, not only because of Öcalan. Every now and then German highways are blocked; there have been sad cases of demonstrators burning themselves.
