Handguns do serve a purpose. Years ago, if I didn't have one in my hands I may not be here. The person realized what was under my towel and he left peacefully. Had he not, I would have killed him. Had I not had that handgun, he may have killed me.

In the hands of the wrong people handguns are dangerous. I have been robbed at gunpoint, and pistol whipped.
