Dear Pete:

Re: "Top of the line Athlon 0.25u was 1GHz. Top of the line Athlon 0.18u is 1.73GHz."

According to this, AMD's top .25u Athlon ran at 700MHz.

Their top .18u Athlon topped out at 1.4GHz. Meanwhile, their .13u/.18u Palomino hybrid is currently at 1.73GHz. Is it the end? Maybe not if they go to 1.8GHz with the model 2200+.

Question is, how far can they go on a .13u process that's already been partially used up? The answer lies in how much they've already used up. It may be a little - may be a lot.

Re: "Top of the line P3 0.18u was 1.0GHz and top of the line P3 0.13u is 1.4GHz"

That also depends. Is the Pentium III-S line finished, or do they intend to make a 1.53GHz model? Also, will they end the product line because of marketing reasons, or because they plan on running out of process headroom?

Re: "Top of the line P4 0.18u was 2.0GHz and top of the line P4 0.13u is 2.2GHz"

Currently, it is 2.4GHz. These parts are already for sale.

Not that it matters, though, since your statement is inconclusive. Intel has a long roadmap ahead of them for Northwood. Whether or not they can execute to it remains to be seen, but I doubt it's reached the end of the process already.

Re: "P4 at 2.4GHZ is still not twice as fast as a 1GHz P3 0.18u. Athlon has more than doubled performance of a Athlon 0.25u 1GHz with AXP2100+."

Link please.
