It is always difficult when you get into that "who is more intelligent" thing. I've never thought test scores a really ideal measure of intelligence. It is one measure, of one very small manifestation of intelligence. But social intelligence tends to be a great predictor of monetary success- and I would suspect people with high social intelligence belong to churches, because they work well in groups. I think you could expect people who do not like groups of people, and thus religions, to pursue more fiercely career choices that do not require group bonding. Academia tends to give individualists quite a bit of latitude, as do the sciences in general, in the private sector.
