Hi Elmat, I see the thread had some fun on my SWC trades and 'astronomically complicated moon-phased perpetual equation of time machine' sculpted out of the mineral yielded from the mines of SWC and its competitors, in turn born of the stars.
It stands in the final line of defense against me losing all nausages by converting it to something more real, solid, less portable and not quite fungible, but not exactly a commodity either.
The 'name' is sort of like having a length of words across the back of one's SUV, going something like '48-Valve-Super-Turbo-Charged-4WD-4WS-5000cc-SLKiX':0)
In any case, the market continues its trend pre-2002, and once again we stare in awe, into the abyss, seeing no visibility, and sensing a crisis of financial survival.
Some headhunter types are reporting pickup in heads wanted, but in the meantime, employment and all not healthy. Stayed late on the town (11:00pm, late for me) and report very light traffic. On the otherhand, I also report there is many more places to go, as a lot of clubs and restaurants had been started in the past 12 months given a sharp drop of rent in Deflation Central HK. OTOH, apartment rent for 1000 sqft apartment (suitable for single or married but w/o kids expats) on the mountain of HK have also crashed, moving some landlords into super cautious mode.
On the third hand (doesn't everybody have one?), my American partner reports his US-based friends are asking about recovery in Asia and prospects for business growth, and his Asia-based friends are asking about US recovery.
My partner just returned from a trip to California/Silicon Valley with a lawyer friend. Both were scrounging for business prospects. I understand Silicon Valley is a fairly relaxed and lightly trafficked place.
ACF Mike will say Silicon Valley is not the whole economy. He would be correct, but Silicon Valley and what it represented did account for a large chunk of the Nasdaq value attribution.
Chugs, Jay
P.S. I just received a series of e-mails with many attached porno photos of the lady country manager of an ex-client of mine. The e-mails are apparently spams by a boyfriend of the married lady, sent to clients, consultants, employees, suppliers, and bosses.
Digital camera photos seems potentially dangerous. Just like nuclear weapons, when it is available, some one will be tempted to use it. |
