Hitachi Data Systems Adds Global Remote Copy Capabilities With Support for Internet Protocol Networks
PALM DESERT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 2002--
Company Works Closely with Nishan Systems to Expand its Storage
Networking Options for Enterprise Customers
Wells Fargo Benefits From Long Distance Data Replication Solution
Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today announced the expansion of its remote copy capabilities for enterprise storage customers by offering Hitachi TrueCopy, its leading software for replication of mission-critical data, over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Through a reseller relationship with Nishan Systems, a leading provider of switches for Fibre Channel and IP storage networks, Hitachi Data Systems now provides another cost-effective solution for data replication from anywhere to anywhere in the globe.
Mark Taylor, Enterprise Storage Engineer, Wells Fargo, said, "We chose a data migration solution based on Hitachi TrueCopy and Nishan IPS 3300 switches because it allowed us to move data from one site to another without taking our system down and to leverage our existing IP network and data circuits. We were able to complete a server migration in days rather than weeks, and it all performed flawlessly."
Hitachi TrueCopy remote copy software and Nishan IPS switches, combined with the industry-leading Hitachi Freedom Storage(TM) Lightning 9900(TM) Series systems, deliver a powerful combination and a greater degree of flexibility for enterprise storage customers. Because it uses IP networks that are already in place, Hitachi TrueCopy over IP is an economical choice for data movement, data replication, backups and content distribution over long distances.
"This relationship enables high-end fibre channel based shops to utilize their IP Networks to create distance based replications schemas -- at greater distances and lower costs," said Steve Duplessie, Enterprise Storage Group. "This also signifies that Hitachi Data Systems views IP as a valid transport for mission critical data."
"We are excited about the opportunity to provide our customers with a cost-effective alternative for remote copy applications," said Steve East, vice president, Storage Integration, Hitachi Data Systems. "As we look beyond this announcement, Hitachi Data Systems is excited to continue to work with Nishan and other companies to further our mission of providing flexible, multi-protocol, open support for solutions that meet the diverse needs of enterprise customers."
Long Distance Remote Copy Demonstration
In October, Hitachi Data Systems, Nishan Systems, Dell, Intel, McData, QLogic, Qwest and other vendors participated in the Promontory Project, a series of performance tests that demonstrated the ability of Lightning 9910 storage systems running a Hitachi TrueCopy application and Nishan IP Storage switches to sustain wire-speed throughput in a network that spanned thousands of miles -- from Sunnyvale, Calif., to Newark, N.J. The performance tests run on the Promontory Project and subsequent tests with Alacritech iSCSI adapters, showed that IP Storage switches and standards-based protocols such as iSCSI and iFCP can reach wire-speed throughput of 219MB/s with a high tolerance for latency. This validation marks a breakthrough for the way enterprises and telecom service providers design, and operate their storage networks across all topologies.
