Steven,

Thanks for those practical suggestions. I bought a cheap little inflatable Stearns kayak for my neighborhood creek to satisfy my immediate water addiction while shopping for something a bit better. A local shop, California Canoe and Kayak, has a program where you give them a $200 deposit and you can try out every kayak and canoe they sell for a maximum of 90 days (up to 2 times per boat for a maximum of 2 days per time) and if you buy one from them in that time period, the deposit is deducted from the purchase price. They have one location right near a lake and river and another at a harbor off San Francisco Bay. It's going to be a fun summer!

Sam
