Carl, first of all, one op-ed does not represent IDF policy. Second, I found it rather shocking because this was not a right-winger but a centrist talking. Third, the US has always judged Israeli actions in context (unlike the rest of the world). The US would break support if Israel carpet-bombed Arab cities, but if Israel starts targeting civilians by deporting the families of suicide bombers, or by forcibly clearing a buffer zone, the US won't break support for that. Just as the US is not currently screaming about 'genocide' like the rest of the world because Israel has declared war.

All the Arab countries need is for the US to be neutral in Israel.

To do what, exactly? They cannot defeat Israel in conventional warfare.
