There's more dope on the loose at suburban schools than at inner-city schools. Availability of money is one reason. Suburban kids have more money to spend than do their inner-city counterparts. Talk to a teacher or two or twenty sometime. The other underlying reason why this is true is quite simple: at urban schools, the dope dealers drop out of school at age 16 or get kicked out of school at age 14 and start working the streets. At suburban schools, teen-age dope peddlers tend to stay in school. The drop-out rate at many inner-city high schools is 75 percent, far exceeding the rate at suburban high schools. Hence, those remaining in the junior and senior classes at inner-city schools tend to be serious students, since the thugs all have gotten the boot.
