Seen from a business point of view, I think it was a good idea to try to catch up with netscape, because Microsoft's position needed a browser, too, but that should not have taken so many resources out of Microsoft that would prevent them from focusing on high-end software, too. It just requires leadership.

Sometimes I believe that Microsoft only focuses on what Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer understand.
