Jeff, In my own worship, and beliefs, I do not spend much time in the Old Testament, but concentrate on the words of Jesus, and what He wants us to do, and to be. None of us mere mortals will ever achieve any level of perfection, but that does not mean that we should stop trying.
You say that "The words of Christ are beloved and understood today..." That is true of some people, but far too few. Christians are being vilified, imprisoned, tortured, and murdered, all over the world because of their belief in those words. The attacks on the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon, were carried out by Muslim zealots against the Judeo/Christian religions. What does one do?? Sit back and love these maniacs with no reprisal at all??? If that were done, there will soon be no Christians left on Earth. What does that accomplish?? Does Jesus want us to commit this form of suicide?? I prefer to think not. |
