DJ Steve Madden/Prison -2: Ordered To Pay $3.1M Restitution

By Colleen DeBaise Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Steve Madden, the footwear fashionista whose platform-style shoes have become a must-have among trendy teenagers, was sentenced Thursday to 41 months in prison for his conviction on stock fraud charges.

Madden, who resigned as chief executive of Steven Madden Ltd. (SHOO) last year shortly before pleading guilty, told U.S. District Judge Kimba M. Wood in Manhattan: "I wish I could go back in time." He blamed "stupidity, arrogance and greed" for his actions.

The judge also ordered Madden to pay $3.1 million in restitution and an $80,000 fine.

The former CEO has acknowledged his role in helping penny-stock firms Monroe Parker Securities and Stratton Oakmont Inc. manipulate a number of initial public offerings, including that of his own company.
