I have been a registered Democrat since the Clinton inquisition. I never voted for Clinton, either in '92 or '96, but felt that what the Repugs organized in '98 was nothing more than an organized political lynching, to steal a phrase from Clarence "Uncle Tom" Thomas. I was a registered Republican from '72 to '98. By the way, I'm proud to say my wife also recently changed her party registration from Republican to Democrat. Too many right-wingers in control of the Republican Party nowadays, and all you hear on AM radio/cable TV anymore is right-wing rage and hate. Enough's enough.

However, the main reason I'm a Democrat is that the Democrats actually do try to tackle some of the more pressing problems of the day, particularly problems involving the big cities. The Republicans, on the other hand, have no solutions, or even valid ideas, as how to rebuild our cities/schools.

On the second subject, there are thousands of examples on the GWB thread of suburban Republican elitism/anti-urban bias/actual hate for people who live in big cities and want to control firearms/on and on and on. Start throwing darts and every third or fourth dart will hit one of these right-wing piss-and-vinegar diatribes.
