"Weber hinted that it would be released at 2GHz and said that on one key benchmark, SpecINT, Hammer would score nearly twice as high as 64-bit chips on the market today from such as those offered by Intel Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc. and IBM."

Itanium has a SPECint of 314. At the time that statement was made IBM's top SPECint score was about 409 while Sun's was in the 400s as well. Surprisingly HP with a SPEC score of over 500 was left out when he made that claim! Indications are that AMD's hype is for Hammer to come in somewhere around 8-900 SPECint based on that quote. If that is correct then Hammer will not be competitive with even NorthWood by years end. Today's NorthWood has the world's highest SPECint score with 819 and it looks like even AMD isn't hyping much more than that for next year. When Intel adds a 533MHz FSB (or higher) and continued frequency ramp, remove the Hammer hype and the Droids may be very disappointed.

So just where is any evidence to support the belief that Hammer will provide "World Class Performance"?
