My take on the Bush speech was that the reason he simultaneously endorsed both sides and condemned both sides is for the same reason most people do: they don't think either side is 100% right nor 100% wrong.

Every day, I sit down in the living room with my remote, and click through the series of talking heads. One of the things that gives me bitter amusement, black humor, is the polarization of the two sides. I have yet to hear an Arab pundit condemn suicide bombing on TV. No matter how much they are pressed, they can't complete the sentence without bitching about the Israeli "occupation." Every network puts on that woman from Al Hayat. She's become as ubiquitous as Al Sharpton and Jerry Falwell used to be.

So far, all the Israeli pundits I've seen get more softballs, but I really haven't seen that many Israeli pundits except for Netanyahu. Taking the Israeli side usually is someone working for a think tank.

Meanwhile, out here in the real world, we are not so polarized. "A plague on both your houses" is the phrase that frequently comes to my own mind.
